The scheme permits serving members to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary as an interest-free loan up to a maximum of £25,000. This money is to be used to help as a deposit for your first home and has been specially introduced to tackle low levels of home ownership among Armed Forces workers.

Armed Forces staff can face a wide range of challenges when searching and applying for a mortgage. The breadth of issues is extensive, but some of the most common revolve around stipend income, long periods of living abroad with a lack of UK address history, and objections to immediately let out the property after settlement. Armed Forces personnel could receive stipend income – including bursaries - and wish for this income to be factored into their mortgage application for increased borrowing.
